I am seeking your help in aquiring the State and/or National certification in the practice of Lomilomi, a Therapeutic massage. I have been practicing Lomi, since the age of five years old as it was handed down to me through my Kupuna, Tutu Kane, William (Billie) Kuiokalani Lee Sr.,(my grandfather) who first instructed me in he'e (walking on) and my greatgrandmother Tutu wahine Luukia the "Blind Kahuna of Papakolea" (Laau lapaau). I believe under my God given sovereign right as a Kanaka Maoli, and with documentation I have from 1985, that states and verifies that I would fall under a "grandfather clause" since I have the name of my practice "Mana Ikuwa Hawaiian Lomilomi" submitted and registered into the OHA database. And whereby a few years later, Governor Cayetano, passed a ruling, that "TRADITIONAL PRACTIONERS" may practice legally in Hawaii. Since then, I have had formal vocational training, apprenticing under Kumu Daniel Fowler in Maui, studied under Aunty Margarets graduates (Kuuipo Nuuiwa, and Derek Ahsing)and attended and completed over 700hrs at Hawaii College of Health Sciences under the "WORK HAWAII" program with Pricipal Dr. Randall James, and Vice Principal Dr. Ray DelaCruz. WorkHawaii fell short of paying my full tuition, when they lost their funding, which in turn left me unable to recieve my diploma and certificate of completion (payment in full was prerequisite). I still have a clientele, an Ohana practice, but believe I need Spiritual Guidance and refreshing to further my God given gifts. I remember,
Papa Kalua Kaiahua who I frequently visited when I lived in Maui and brought many people, seeking healing but remember most, about his love of Jesus. Mahalo for your attention to my request. Zena
Aloha Zena,
I just returned from Hawaii and have been away from my computer for a month.
It seems to me that you are more than qualified as a Traditional Practitioner.
Is it the certificate that says that you are certified what you need? As the Kumu, I teach at Hawaii Healing Arts College and offer Lomilomi classes. The students receive a certificate saying that they have taken the course, and the school is nationally certified. The spiritual practices are very important too. As you know, Lomilomi is more than a physical science, it is a spiritual art. What you do, who you are inside, and who you help, are the things that matter most. Just because you didn't get a certificate from the college doesn't mean that you are not a traditional practitioner. You are that, and more. Your ohana stands behind you, the work you do goes before you, and you are fantastic!
You have received much training, now use it to help others.
Much Love and Aloha,
Kumu
